Evin, Blair and Brook just got back from San Francisco where we provided REDs, techs, and cam ops for a Ford commercial shot by Dion Beebe. Evin Grant operated the B cam and Wescam mount for the helicopter shots while Blair and Brook provided DIT and tech support.
Evin spent a day integrating the RED with the Wescam mount and custom built an air switch to control the start/stop function on the RED from inside the heli. Check out pics from this shoot in our gallery.

What an incredible time it has been so far. As you can see HERE, this stuff looks amazing. Special thanks goes to James for letting us post some stills from the movie.
Quick workflow tidbits. We are currently using 5 compact flash cards which is working out great so far. There hasn’t been a take that has exceeded the recording time since I have been here. After each card is filled, it is transferred via macbook pro to two 1 terabyte dual-drive fw800 external raid drives. To get dual fw800 ports, I use the Nitro dual fw800 express card. Transferring the footage to two drives provides a backup in case one drive goes down. After each shoot, the drives are then split up between myself and the director for safe keeping.

Hello fellow redusers and Red Digital Camera fans. I wanted to make a quick report on the progress of one of the first independent full length features to be shot with RED. Blair has been out out here for almost two weeks and has flown back to take care of stuff back home in California. I have been here since friday taking over “RED NINJA” work and the experience has been incredible. This is the first time I have been to North Carolina and it is beautiful this time of year. One thing that is immediately evident on the set is that EVERYONE is excited about RED. During the course of my stay here I hope to do some interviews with various crew members. I had great conversations with hairdressers/makeup artists who are adjusting to the new style of red shooting. The 1st AC, camera op, gaffer..not to mention the co-directors Bo Bobak and James Suttles are very impressed with the results thus far. The footage to say in one word …STUNNNNING. I will do my best to keep a frequent blog going. We have been doing work from sunrise to sunset but loving every minute of it. Here are a few BTS shots. I have more to post but I have to clear it with the directors first. Gotta jam to work. I’ll be baaaack!!!
